Padhma Knits

Providing Skills, Creating Jobs, Bettering Lives.

In a rural town of Nepalgunj, in Nepal 13 women are defying odds and leaving the dependency of their husbands for a living and to bring up their children. In this town, much like most towns and villages in Nepal, women are confined within their household chores in their days while men are thought of as the sole breadwinners of the household. The literacy rate among women is drastically lower than men and even lower than the cities, majority people live under poverty line and in those seemingly hopeless conditions, especially for women, those 13 women are taking charge of their financial stability introducing themselves to independency by learning a skill and applying it to earn their share of the bread.

In an economy where many are taken advantage of, Padhma Knits is one of the few companies that supports those artisans and ensures they receive their due price for their goods. They provide the women in rural communities of Nepalgunj, Nepal with skills and employment enabling them to earn beyond local minimum wages. These skills help the artisans to be independent and also enables them to provide better life for their children and families.
